WANTED: Computer Technician / IT Guru for Small Office of 3
We are a small real estate management office in New York City looking for contract help managing and maintaining our computer systems. We currently have several Windows PCs on a LAN with no main server, plus a hosted Voice Over IP phone system.
Initially, we are looking for someone to help us with the following tasks:
- Establishing a well organized peer-to-peer file sharing system
- Establishing criteria for, and installing, a backup scheme for all computers
- Helping procure and install real estate management software
- Ongoing maintenance of all software we use
- Maintaining Windows patches and Anti-Virus software
- Other assorted computer-related tasks
While our needs are not extraordinarily complex, we do have non-trivial software and hardware in use. Therefore, we expect you to be comfortable working in a professional environment that has similar demands to a larger organization, such as keeping our systems running during business hours, maintaining and testing backups on a scheduled basis, diagnosing slow or down network issues, etc.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Advanced Microsoft Windows XP experience. Specifically:
** Ability to diagnose a non-booting system and perform a non-destructive restore
** Understanding of Windows XP network configuration and diagnostic tools
** Understanding of Windows XP print spooler and printing system
** Understanding of Windows XP peer to peer and remote desktop sharing services
- Previous experience managing a small LAN. Specifically:
** Understanding of basic router/firewall equipment
- Experience removing spyware/malware
- Experience with cloud and local based backup and restore solutions
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Microsoft Windows Server Management (2000, 2003)
- PBX or VoIP system experience
- Advanced Networking Experience. Specifically:
** Certifications in Cisco or other networking environments
** Experience setting up load-balanced or failover setups
- Computer Science or related degree (or in-progress work toward a degree)
- Experience with Microsoft Access (programming and maintaining)
This position is perfect for college upperclassmen or recent graduates, as well as individuals operating their own contracting business.
You must be available on an on-call basis (2-4 hour response window by phone or in person) for when we have serious system problems, in addition to at least one monthly scheduled visit for maintenance on our systems.
Pay Rate: $30-50/hour DOE
Compensation: $30-50 /hr DOE
