We are looking for a technical Director who can drive projects and provide leadership for our engineers in an innovative and fast paced environment. You will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of key projects.

This position will lead advanced technology teams using new programming paradigms such as Agile/Test Driven Development and industry leading technologies such as the Spring Framework, AJAX, Lucene, design patterns, etc. This is a fast, open environment where innovation and participation is highly encouraged.

Note: This position requires strong leadership, technical skills, architecture and Java coding skills, as well as the ability to understand business goals and define software solutions to meet those goals.

Our Director, Applications Development will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle including design, implementation, deployment, testing, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and mentoring to Engineering staff

• Manage multiple development teams supporting different lines of business

• Work with Product team leads to review the functional requirements for projects and determine feasibility

• Participate in the creation of project plans, resource allocation and estimated timelines

• Create and document the technical design to meet requirements and oversee implementation

• Interact with Product and Quality Assurance to set priorities, resolve defects, change requests and issues

• Work closely with business owners in order to map and support their operational needs

• Research solutions for back office systems to improve business efficiencies

Requirements

• 7+ years development experience, 3 years experience as a technical lead

• 5+ years managing a development team

• At least 5 years web development experience with J2EE required and 3 years experience developing and deploying a production system on the Unix platform (Linux preferred)

• Must have experience with Tomcat or other major java web server

• Must have in depth technical abilities including strong programming and design skills

• Must know how to architect scalable, robust, high performing web sites and have in-depth knowledge of web development methodologies, tools and techniques

• Must have strong understanding of relational database concepts including SQL, indexes, transactions and experience with a major DB system such as Oracle, SQL Server or Sybase – experience with MySql is a plus

• Experience with back office/sales operations a plus

• Experience managing development teams using Agile/Scrum/XP methodologies

• BS in Computer Science or related field, Master’s preferred, or equivalent experience

• Passion for technology and excellence

• Motivated self-starter who likes working on very productive teams

• Excellent communication skills a must
